An Artist's Story

DJ Yaya (real name Alan Medrano) began his journey through the world of music in Gainesville, Florida. Growing up a kid of the 90s in a lively college town, he took on all the grunge and classic rock his dad's boombox could handle. Throw in a little punk and hip hop with a touch of dance music, and he was finally starting to develop a sound. He eventually discovered the expressive and fantastical art form that is Musical Theatre.

He attended the University of Florida where he studied Musical Theatre and he took that knowledge to New York City. Along the way, Yaya has joined the Actors Equity Union, performed nationwide as an actor in a children's musical, written extensive essays and short stories, and now he thrives as a DJ and live sound engineer.
